Surf Lessons Near Orlando — Just an Hour Away in Cocoa Beach
Trade a theme-park day for the ocean. Certified instructors, beginner-friendly waves, and all gear included — the closest real surf to Orlando.
The Nearest Ocean Waves to the Theme Parks
Orlando has world-class theme parks — but no waves. The closest place to actually learn to surf is Cocoa Beach, about 60 miles east on the 528 Beachline, roughly an hour from Disney, Universal, and International Drive.
It's worth the short drive. Cocoa Beach is one of the best beginner surf spots on the U.S. Atlantic coast: gentle, consistent waves over a soft, sandy bottom, warm water most of the year, and a genuine surf-town feel. It's also minutes from the Kennedy Space Center and Port Canaveral, so a lesson slots neatly into almost any Central Florida trip.
Book Your LessonHow a Surf Lesson From Orlando Works
A lesson is easy to fit around the parks, a cruise, or a rocket launch. Here's the whole day, start to finish.
Book your time before you drive out
Reserve online in under a minute and pick a start time that fits your Orlando itinerary. Morning slots have the calmest water and the easiest parking — ideal if you want to be back near the parks by afternoon.
Drive east — about an hour door to door
Cocoa Beach sits roughly 60 miles east of Orlando, a straight shot on the 528 (Beachline). From International Drive, Disney, or Universal you're looking at around an hour with normal traffic.
Meet your instructor on the sand
We send you the exact meeting point and what to bring after you book. All the gear — board, leash, rash guard, wax, and sunscreen — is waiting for you. Just show up in a swimsuit with a towel.
Surf, then get back to your trip
A lesson runs about 1 to 2 hours, so you can still hit a theme park, a Space Coast rocket launch, or a Port Canaveral cruise the same day. Most first-timers stand up on their very first wave.

Local Guide · Alma Swim Foundation, Eatonville FL
Victor is truly amazing! The whole staff and crew are truly so wonderful. Our non profit, Alma Swim Foundation, planned a surf lesson for youth and adults from the historical Black town of Eatonville with CocoSol Surf. Some of the children and adults had never had a beach experience or had ever surfed before. CocoSol Surf brought boards, set up tents and really gave our group an unforgettable surf experience. We give them a 10/10 for being so hands on, encouraging and most importantly patient while the new surfers learned.

We have had a great experience with CocoSol. Our daughter has been with them for a little over a year now and she has learned so much from the coaches Victor and Josh. Victor is a very experienced lifeguard and the comfort level I have is unmatched.
